There is a famous quote we are all familiar with:

To a child, love is spelt TIME.

In an employer-employee relationship, it does not differ much, even though how we spend time with our people may be demonstrated differently. If we are familar with Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, we will realise that it’s human nature to have their social needs fulfilled.

Lynn Leahy, an award-winning learning facilitator, mentor and coach, shares why it’s so important for leaders to be spending time with people and to truly care for their well being. How?

  • By having regular one-to-one meetings.
  • See them as a person and genuinely ask them about their life and their feelings.
  • Help them find solutions to some of their challenges, where these solutions fit their personality, not yours.
