Strengths-based leadership is the “bridge” that connects employee engagement with a high-performance culture.

The conventional approach to performance is to address, fix, and “repair” individual weaknesses – thinking that there is a certain “world-class” standard which applies to everyone. This approach, however, is deeply flawed. It underestimates the rich leadership talents residing in each of us and if left untapped, creates frustration and unrealistic expectations.

On the other hand, a strengths-based development strategy starts by focusing on what people do well naturally. It then emphasises and builds on those strengths to help individuals become even more productive, and produce sustainable high performance.

Ian Lee of Leaderonomics shares his personal experience with regard to strength-based leadership.
